NIBA 30th Year!! In 1981 I opened an IB with my father and so began my life in the futures industry. Since that time so many things have changed in our space but the constant for me has always been being involved with the IB business and the NIBA since the beginning. My old FCM was the first to join as a representative from an IB who cleared with us was the first President. When I came to Stone X Financial Inc. 17 years ago, I discussed with the powers that be that we needed to join and grow our IB business. They wholeheartedly agreed and now we are one of the top 5 clearers of IB business. The number one thing that NIBA has accomplished is, they’ve brought a unified voice to the NFA and CFTC that the IB Community never would have received without this organization. Number 2 is, I met my wife of 26 years at the 3rd conference. With nearly 90 years of experience in the commodity markets and roots dating back to 1924, StoneX is an industry leader in providing market knowledge and efficient clearing operations to Introducing Brokers in the United States and United Kingdom. From the Classroom to the Trading Floor

There is no single, clearly defined education path for entering the derivatives industry as professionals come from a range of academic backgrounds. Still, higher education plays a crucial role in preparing students for success in this complex and fast-evolving field. A strong foundation in finance, economics, and mathematics is essential. At the undergraduate level, students should prioritize courses in financial markets and institutions, investment analysis, corporate finance, and introductory derivatives. Just as important are courses in statistics and calculus, which help build the analytical and quantitative skills required for understanding pricing models, volatility, and risk management strategies. With the increasing reliance on algorithmic trading and quantitative research, a concentration or minor in applied mathematics, data science, or computer programming can...
