Primary Markets Traded:
Global Futures, Options and cleared OTC. Specializing in Metals and Energy servicing commercial and institutional/Prop client base.
How did you get started? How did the firm get started?
I’ve spent over 30 years in the futures and options business at various industry positions such as Marketing Director of the New York Mercantile Exchange, and the Director of Marketing for Mitsubishi FCM, Triland USA. About 3 years ago, I saw a need for a specialty futures and options firm in Miami, and opened Strait, LLC. We have New York and Chicago Operations as well as our Florida location.
Does the firm provide additional services besides brokerage?
Yes, we develop risk management programs, operate an inventory finance advisory and we have a special interest in the area of emerging manager development.
What are the biggest challenges your clients face today? What does the firm do to help meet those challenges?
Regulatory uncertainty and the ramifications of artificially low interest rates. Strait LLC believes it is important to participate in regulatory changes. As one example, we developed and presented an opinion paper for the CFTC on the imposition of mandatory position limits.
How has the futures and options industry evolved since you first started in business?
The single largest change to our industry has been the development and implementation of electronic futures and OTC trading.
What do you believe to be the keys to the firm’s success?
Sticking with what you know. Coming from the cash/physical side of the commodities business, I generally use this knowledge to cater to that customer base as well as groups looking to expand into that space.
What trends are you most excited about?
The continued growth of the global futures and options markets.
What trends are you most worried about?
The continued growth of the global futures and options markets.
Why did you become a member of the NIBA?
NIBA provides support for the IB community and their customers in the form of providing timely information on the ever shifting regulatory environment as well as advocacy directed to our regulators and FCM’s.
